Other Area Fishing

Located in the southern half of the county are Honey Lake, Silver Lake, McCoy Flat Reservoir, Hamilton Branch, Mountain Meadows Reservoir, Goodrich Creek, and Horse Lake.  Trout can be found in all of these bodies of water and Honey Lake offers quality catfishing.

Other hot spots for angling are:

The Susan River offers planted rainbow trout.  Best fishing occurs after spring high water.  The season runs from the third week in April to mid-November.  Access:  Hobo Camp, South Lassen, Miller Road and Devil's Corral Trailheads.

Biscar Reservoir offers bass and bluegill in this 60-acre impoundment.  Access:   34 miles north of Susanville on Hwy 395, take the Karlo County Road and continue 6 miles on dirt road.  It is open all year but the road may be impassable during inclement weather.

Dodge Reservoir is planted with Eagle Lake Trout in its 400-acres.  Boats can be launched from the shoreline near the campground.  Access:  Go 50 miles north of Susanville on Hwy 395 to Ravendale, then turn east on Mail Route County Road, then to Marr County Road and then north on Tuledad Road for 22.6 miles.  Watch for signs:  Roads may be impassable during wet or snowy weather.

Round Corral Reservoir, planted with Eagle Lake rainbow trout is open all year.  Small boats can be launched from the shoreline.  Access:  50 miles north or Susanville on Hwy 395 to Ravendale, turn east on Mail Route County Road and go to Marr County Road which becomes Buckhorn Backcountry Byway.  Watch for signs:  May be impassable during inclement weather.

Buckhorn Reservoir, a 160 acre lake, is planted with rainbow trout and is open all year round.  Small boats can be launched from shore.  Access:  50 miles north of Susanville on Hwy 395 to Ravendale, turn east on Mail Route County Road and then go to Marr County Road which becomes Buckhorn Backcountry Byway.  Watch for signs.  May be impassable during wet or snowing weather.

Smoke Creek is a small desert creek with rainbow trout.  Be aware of the Nevada State Line and of private property.  The season runs from the third week in April until mid-November.  Access is 45 miles north of Susanville on Hwy 395, east on Post Camp Road for 12 miles.

Willow Creek offers German Brown Trout but it is difficult to access due to rough terrain.  It is open all year.  Access is 50 miles north of Susanville on Hwy 395 to Ravendale, turn east on Mail Route County Road to Marr County Road which becomes Buckhorn Backcountry Byway.
